The Summer Fayre organised by Ely Freemasons in Watson’s Meadow last Saturday raised £2,300 for Cambridgeshire’s Festival 2023 in aid of the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

David Watson, who hosted the event said ‘We aimed to top £2,000 and we are really thrilled at the outcome of in excess of £2,300. We are grateful for the support of our members and everyone who attended. We would like particularly to thank local businesses Iceland Ely, Tesco Ely, The Ely Cycle Centre, Babylon Arts, Mountain Warehouse, Claas UK and Travis Perkins Ely who donated so generously to our Tombola’.

Tom Jackson, winner of the Travis Perkins wheelbarrow, immediately donated his prize for auction and was pleased to see his generosity rewarded as the wheelbarrow is going to a home where it will be worked very hard!

Other attractions included a mini golf range, and the winner of the day was John Reed, who won a prize of a round of golf, courtesy of the Ely’s ‘On Par’ Golf Course. The junior winner was Lara Dastur.

Coming just before the heatwave, the weather was great for the much-anticipated event, bringing out a good number of families who were prepared to enjoy the sunshine.

The chance to throw a few wet sponges at friends and family allowed many of the visitors to cool off in style, as demonstrated by Provincial Grand Master Bill Dastur and his son Robin.
