Mark Shields was born in 1973 in Akrotiri, Cyprus, and educated at King’s Ely, Cambridgeshire. He has spent over thirty years in the technology sector and now holds a number of interests and board positions in start-up businesses across the UK and Ireland. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Directors in 2015.
He was initiated into St Ovin Lodge No. 7774 in April 2009 by his father, W. Bro. Robert Shields, and served as Master in 2021. In 2011, he joined his school lodge, The Porta Lodge No. 9511, where he served as Master from 2016 to 2018. His Provincial appointments include Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon (2018), Provincial Grand Treasurer (2021), and Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden (2023). In April 2024, he was appointed and invested as Assistant Grand Pursuivant.
In Royal Arch Masonry, he was exalted into Caldwell Chapter No. 2727 in 2011 and served as First Principal in 2021. He was appointed Deputy Grand Superintendent in 2023 and, in April 2024, was invested as Past Grand Sword Bearer at Supreme Grand Chapter.
He is a subscribing member of several lodges and chapters within the Province, including Lodge of Regularity No. 91, Cambridgeshire Installed Masters Lodge No. 7429, Concordia Ducum No. 9798, Hutchinson Masters Lodge No. 10027, Epicurean Lodge No. 10058, Chapter of Probity No. 7333, and Cambridgeshire First Principals’ Chapter No. 7429.
He is also a member of a number of additional Masonic Orders, including the Masonic Order of Athelstan, the Ancient Masonic Order of Alfred the Great, Mark Master Masons, Royal Ark Mariner, the Allied Masonic Degrees (in France and Canada), the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Order of Knights Masons.
