POS+ABILITY charity receives support from Cambridgeshire Freemasons

 |

Descensus Aquarum Lodge in Ely has raised funds for Pos+Ability by holding a Charity ‘Cash in the Attic’ Auction at Rowley’s Auction House. The money from the auction plus further funding from Cambridgeshire Freemasons through the Masonic Charitable Foundation means that £2872 has been raised for Pos+Ability.

Pos+Ability is a small local charity offering exercise groups specifically tailored to the needs of people with long-term neurological conditions or other conditions that impact their mobility. It has not been an easy year for Pos+Ability. They are keeping in touch with clients by phone and developing some extra online content to keep them moving at home.

Cambridgeshire Freemasons have contributed to this grant that comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons, their families and friends, from across England and Wales.

Maureen Harrington, Trustee &Treasurer of Pos+Ability said:

I would like to thank you for the generous donation from Descensus Aquarum Lodge, Cambridgeshire Freemasons and the Masonic Charitable Foundation. We are overwhelmed. The money will be used to fund our new online exercise programme for existing and new clients which is taking place during the current pandemic situation. It is extremely difficult for us to fund raise now as all our usual events have been cancelled so your generous donation is even more welcome. We hope to resume our normal activities as early as possible in the New Year but as our Clients are all in the extremely vulnerable category, face to face exercise classes cannot take place at the moment. Once again many thanks.

John Sinclair, Charity Steward of Descensus Aquarum Lodge said:

I am delighted that Descensus Aquarum Lodge, Cambridgeshire Freemasons and the Masonic Charitable Foundation have been able to give their support to Pos+Ability. This charity helps local people live a better, more fulfilled life by keeping them active in their own community and we are extremely pleased to be able to help. We must also give our thanks to Rowley’s Auction House, in Ely, who very kindly did not charge any commission.

About Pos+Ability:
Pos+Ability is a registered charity which was formed in 2011. The charity was set up in Ely but has now expanded to five groups in four centres (Histon, Ely, Littleport and Soham).
We run chair-based exercise (CBE) groups for people living with long-term illnesses, including, but not limited to, Strokes, Parkinson’s, Neurological Conditions, Multiple Sclerosis and Muscular Dystrophy in Cambridgeshire. All our groups offer professional and effective programmes and 1:1 support to our clients. All instructors are fully trained by Later Life Training (accessed through the Cambridgeshire Falls Prevention Team) in delivering chair-based exercise and/or Otago programmes. We have had input from the Cambridgeshire Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) team. We also ensure the quality one-to-one programmes by regularly consulting a specialist neuro-physiotherapist on staff training and clients’ individual programmes.

About the Masonic Charitable Foundation:
The Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country. Funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families, the MCF awards millions of pounds each year to local and national charities that help vulnerable people, advance medical research and provide opportunities for young people. The MCF also helps to fund vital services such as hospices and air ambulances and regularly contributes to worldwide appeals for disaster relief. In total, MCF support helps to improve the lives of thousands of people every year in England, Wales and internationally. As well as providing grants to charities, the MCF supports Freemasons and their families with a financial, health or family need. Visit www.mcf.org.uk

United Grand Lodge of England:
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations in the world. Its roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles. For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In today’s world filled with uncertainty, these principles ring as true as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.
