It was the turn of the Cambridge City Foodbank to receive support this month when they were presented with a donation of £800 from the Freemasons of Cantabrigia Lodge No. 3532.

The Cambridge City Foodbank, an independent local charity and member of the Trussell Trust network, provides emergency food parcels and essential supplies to people in crisis across the City and surrounding areas. The charity recently reported a significant increase in demand, reflecting national trends highlighted by the Trussell Trust, which found that over 14 million people in the UK faced hunger last year due to lack of money, up from 11.6 million in 2022. One in four children now live in what the charity defines as “food insecure” households.

In September, Iraklis Evangelinos, representing Cantabrigia Lodge, visited the Foodbank where he met with Liam Loftus, Development Director, to learn more about the impact of the Lodge’s donation and see the operation first-hand.

We are truly grateful to the members of Cantabrigia Lodge for their generous donation. This will make such a difference to the people we support. As demand for our services continues to rise, donations like this help us meet the growing need in our community. Every contribution makes a difference to people who are struggling to put food on the table.

Amaya Dellar-Moy, Cambridge City Foodbank

The Cambridge City Foodbank continues to work toward its vision of a UK without the need for food banks, meeting emergency needs while tackling the underlying causes of poverty through community partnerships and advocacy.

The £800 gift was made possible through contributions from members of Cantabrigia Lodge and fund-matching from the City & University of Cambridge Masonic Charitable Trust.

It was a privilege to visit the Foodbank and see the vital work being done by Amaya, Liam and their team. The scale of food insecurity in Cambridge and across the UK is deeply concerning, and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting those who need help most.
