Isaac Newton University Lodge closes the Masonic year in Style

The Worshipful Master and members of Isaac Newton University Lodge were joined by brethren from across Cambridgeshire and further afield for what proved to be a memorable final meeting of the year. The event marked not only the close of the Masonic year, but, fittingly for a University Lodge, the end of the academic year as well. It was also the last meeting for the Lodge’s current officers before they hand over to their successors in October.

The centrepiece of the evening was a Second Degree ceremony in which two candidates were passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft. The ceremony was conducted with care and distinction, and was honoured by the presence of distinguished brethren including R.W.Bro. Sir David Wootton, Past Deputy Grand Master, and W.Bro. Edward Williams, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire.

In keeping with a tradition established in recent years, the June meeting offered brethren the opportunity to set aside their usual dark suits and court dress in favour of a more relaxed summer dress code. Many rose to the occasion in true garden party spirit, with an array of colourful blazers adding a vibrant touch to the usual Masonic regalia. The relaxed format was also a chance for brethren to invite non-Masonic partners, friends and family to explore the Lodge building, find out more about what we do and join in the celebrations following the ceremony.

Under glorious summer skies, more than 80 members and guests, including the Worshipful Master and brethren from Lodge Granta No. 41 of the Order of Women Freemasons, gathered on the lawn at Bateman Street for a drinks reception with canapés and live music courtesy of the Rose Quartet. The warm summer evening provided the perfect backdrop for conversation and camaraderie before proceedings moved inside for the Festive Board and later to the bar, where the evening was rounded off in true Cambridge style.
