Ely Masonic Hall recently welcomed the public for two days of free health checks, supported by members of Cambridgeshire Freemasons. The event was a great success, with over 70 people attending, around 65% of them non-Masons.
Visitors received health screenings from Healthy You, with several taking up offers for follow-up appointments. In one notable case, a lady was found to have very high blood pressure, something she had been completely unaware of. She and her daughter, who accompanied her, immediately agreed to arrange a GP appointment.
The event also proved valuable for carers. One attendee, who looks after her husband living with dementia, was able to participate in the health check because Masonic members kindly stepped in to look after him during her visit. She expressed her gratitude, explaining that she rarely has time to do something for herself.
In addition to the health checks, many visitors took the opportunity to learn more about Freemasonry. Guided tours of the building were offered, and plenty of tea and friendly conversation rounded off the day.
Overall, the weekend was a meaningful way for Ely Masonic Hall to give back to the community.
