Cambridge University Freemasonry Society visit to Grand Lodge

 |

The Cambridge University Freemasonry Society (CUFS) recently organised an enlightening visit to the Grand Lodge in London, home of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). This unique event brought together a diverse group of participants, including student non-masons from Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Universities, women masons from the Order of Women Freemasons (OWF), and members from the Isaac Newton University Lodge (INUL). The tour was a resounding success, offering a rare opportunity for attendees to explore the rich history and traditions of Freemasonry.

The visit was particularly notable for its inclusive representation from both the UGLE and OWF, highlighting the collaborative spirit within the Masonic community. Participants were treated to an in-depth tour run by the knowledgeable staff of the Museum of Freemasonry, situated in the Grand Lodge building on Great Queen Street. The tour included visits to the Museum of Freemasonry and the Grand Temple, both of which left a strong impression on the attendees. The architectural grandeur, historical artifacts, and the significant role Freemasonry has played in shaping society were truly awe-inspiring.

W.Bro. Simon Cooper, Vice President of CUFS, expressed his enthusiasm about the event, stating,

It was fantastic to see such a diverse group come together to learn about Freemasonry. The representation from both UGLE and OWF grand lodges made the experience truly special.

W.Bro. Angela Kennedy Worshipful Master of Granta 41 Lodge (OWF) also shared her thoughts, saying,

Working with CUFS and the local UGLE lodge has been a wonderful experience. It’s great to see the enthusiasm and interest from the student community.

CUFS has been instrumental in extending opportunities to join Freemasonry to those among the Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University student bodies who may not have had the chance previously. The society actively engages the student population in Cambridge, fostering a deeper understanding of Masonic principles and values. This approach has proven to be highly successful, with several CUFS members going on to join local UGLE and OWF lodges.

The visit to the Grand Lodge in London was a testament to the positive impact of CUFS’s efforts. It not only provided valuable insights into Freemasonry but also strengthened the bonds between different Masonic groups. The event underscored the importance of inclusivity and collaboration within the Masonic community, paving the way for future initiatives that continue to promote understanding, unity and engagement.
