On 19th February 2025, WBro. Tim Downes, Worshipful Master of Fundamental Lodge No. 10002, conducted a Triple Third Degree for his sons Jamie, Troy, and Logan.
Several brethren, all from Whittlesey Lodges, together with attending Provincial Officers, took office or delivered part of the carefully-planned ceremony, which was a deliberate choice to create a truly unique and memorable occasion. The Exhortation was delivered flawlessly by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, WBro. David Blair.
Tim is a Lewis, and his grandfather and uncle were also Freemasons. His father was a member of West Essex Lodge 2561, and when he passed to the Grand Lodge above, Tim had not yet joined Freemasonry. He was initiated into St. Peter de Merton Lodge 7559 in Bedfordshire in September 2003, having been proposed by his father-in-law.
Tim almost resigned from Freemasonry due to work commitments, but learned about Freemasonry in Whittlesey from a dog-walking neighbour. He joined St. Andrew Lodge and progressed to the Chair of King Solomon in October 2022.
Tim’s youngest son Logan, having observed him going out to meetings with his briefcase each month, developed an interest in Freemasonry. Tim was delighted to be able to Initiate him in 2022 during his year as Worshipful Master of St. Andrew Lodge and his curiosity soon inspired his brothers. Logan was Initiated in December 2022, Jamie on 14th February 2023, and Troy on 14th March 2023. A dispensation was then granted to hold an emergency meeting on Friday, 25th August 2023, to conduct a triple Second-Degree ceremony and pass all three brothers.
This latest ceremony was an incredibly special moment that I will treasure for the rest of my life. My sons and I extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in making the evening an unforgettable experience. Their contributions helped transform a special moment into a once-in-a-lifetime event, reinforcing the enduring bonds of Freemasonry.
