Gild of St Mary Lodge No 7288

Masonic Hall, Bateman Street, Cambridge

The Gild of St Mary Lodge was formed on the 21 October 1953 under the direction of Sir Henry Thirkill, Provincial Grand Master for Cambridgeshire as a means of facilitating the wider access to Freemasonry and to allow men who had no formal ties to the older established Lodges in Cambridge to be admitted into Freemasonry. The name of the Lodge is taken from the original St Mary’s Church that existed in the town in 1284.

The existing membership is mainly drawn from Cambridge and the surrounding villages and towns. Anyone wishing to become a member by joining the lodge will always find a warm fraternal welcome offered to them, will be guaranteed to make some very good friends and also have the chance to learn, develop as a man and a member of the wider community.
The Lodge meets seven times per year from October through to April on the third Thursday of the month in the Masonic Hall, Bateman Street, Cambridge. These formal meetings are followed by a supper for all those attending to enjoy and relax in great company with likeminded people.
The Gild has a reputation for performing excellent masonic ritual whilst the customs and traditions of the lodge are maintained. It is renowned for being very open, welcoming and friendly; and is also inclusive with a range of members from all walks of life in terms of age, religion, ethnic origin and careers.
A number of social events are held during the year, which may include a formal black tie Ladies Night, often in February. Recent examples of other events include a music concert in the Bishops Garden in Ely and a wine tasting evening in Cambridge. Members are also encouraged to join in and socialise with the other lodges at their events and build up a close and friendly relationship amongst us all. There are also annual inter lodge sporting events, including golf and bowls competitions. The Lodge is committed to helping the wider community by raising money and offering support for various charities, both local and national, for masonic and non–masonic purposes. Membership
The Lodge welcomes new members who meet the general criteria for masonic membership, they will be guided, mentored and supported by existing members of the lodge and have the opportunity to meet other members, both socially and as part of the joining process before committing themselves in any way.
