Cambridgeshire Meridian Lodge No 9687

Freemasons’ Hall, Bateman Street, Cambridge (Mar, Oct)

The Lodge is a so-called "daytime Lodge". It was consecrated on 25th May 1999 as a Daughter Lodge of Scientific Lodge No. 88. The seeds for the formation of the Lodge were sown after it became apparent some members of existing Lodges were finding it increasingly difficult to attend their evening meetings, thus a daytime Lodge would enable these Brethren to continue to enjoy Freemasonry. Likewise, a daytime Lodge would also provide an opportunity for those wishing to join Freemasonry but unable to attend an evening meeting.

Being a daytime Lodge, the membership has traditionally been drawn from those who are retired or may work in an evening or do not work for whatever reason; the current membership of 27 have an age range from mid-40’s to 100. The majority of Lodge members have joined whilst also belonging to other Lodges although ceremonies for new Masons have taken place after being introduced by friends and/or relations of existing members.
Meeting just three times a year; the first Thursday of March and first Tuesdays of October and December; the Lodge gathers at 10:30am with the meeting being followed by Lunch. The March and October meetings being held at Freemasons’ Hall, Bateman Street, Cambridge, whilst the December meeting is usually held at one of the other Masonic Centres within the Province.
Not surprisingly, the Lodge has a wealth of Masonic experience and knowledge amongst its members which can be drawn upon to aid and assist the new and inexperienced Mason in the open, relaxed and extremely friendly atmosphere of a small Lodge. With the October meeting being the installation of a new Master, the other two meetings can be Masonic ceremonies, talks on a wide variety of topics or concerts. All members are given the opportunity to play an active part in Lodge life, but they are under no pressure to commit to something with which they are uncomfortable.
Being a small Lodge, there are few social occasions but Brethren are invited to bring their Ladies and partners to Luncheon after regular meetings. Usually, a talk or some kind of entertainment is arranged for the Ladies and partners whilst the Lodge meeting takes place with many talks, etc. seeing the Brethren and their guests joining together. Invitations to these events are also extended to prospective members and candidates.
The Lodge welcomes all who would wish to join but would have a greater appeal to those who are able to attend daytime meetings; with their Ladies and partners attending the meals following some meetings if they wish; and are looking to make new friends whilst learning to appreciate the teachings and value of Freemasonry.
